Who is Asst. Prof. Dr. Vahit Mutlu?

I am Vahit Mutlu. I was born in 1989 in Aydoğdu village, Erzincan. I completed my primary and secondary education in Erzincan.

I started my university education at OMÜ Medical Faculty. After a one-year English preparatory period, I completed my 6-year medical faculty education. Shortly before starting my professional career, I got married. I am married and a father of three children. After completing my medical education, I was assigned as a general practitioner at Erzincan Mengücek Gazi Training and Research Hospital in 2013.

During my approximately 2-year tenure as a general practitioner, I provided service to more than 44,000 patient consultations. In 2015, I began my residency in the Department of General Surgery at OMÜ Medical Faculty, where I graduated. During my residency of over 5 years, I participated in over 2,000 cases. Throughout this period, I developed a particular interest in gastrointestinal surgery, hepatopancreaticobiliary surgery, and bariatric surgery.

After liver transplantation was resumed at OMÜ Medical Faculty in 2019, I participated in approximately 40 liver harvestings and around 20 cadaveric transplantations. I wrote my thesis on bariatric surgery.

Since January 2021, I have been working as a general surgery specialist at Tokat State Hospital. I take pride in pioneering several achievements in Tokat province since my appointment as a specialist. I have successfully performed many procedures that had not been previously conducted in Tokat, including A-group surgeries like the Whipple procedure, as well as being the first to perform obesity surgery and minimal invasive surgical procedures (such as gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, oncological, etc.) at the secondary level hospital.

I have experience in performing more than 500 bariatric surgeries and over 1,000 cases of laparoscopic abdominal surgery. I have received numerous commendation certificates from Cimer (Presidential Communication Center), Tokat Governorship, Tokat Provincial Health Directorate, and the Chief Physician’s Office of Tokat State Hospital for my service and achievements.

I recently gave interviews to local and national media regarding cases I’ve recently handled. Additionally, after performing laparoscopic cholecystectomy on a patient who had 14,387 gallstones removed, I initiated applications to Guinness World Records for a potential world record.

In addition, during my residency and specialist training, I contributed to numerous national and international scientific papers, oral presentations, posters, and book chapters.

I have attended numerous scientific congresses, courses, and seminars.
I am pursuing my dreams and walking towards my goals.
